The Digital Devil and Daniel Shebat - This is a 860 word cyberpunk flash about a "cyber cowboy" who penetrates the wrong server and, consequently, has a demonic encounter.
Fantasy
The Pity of the Rogue - This is a 700 word flash fiction featuring my sword and sorcery character, "the Rogue." This is the story of his travels in the mountains and his encounter with a desperate struggle.
The Rage of the Rogue - This is a 615 word flash fiction featuring my sword and sorcery character, "the Rogue." It concerns an encounter he has in the City of Ar and explains the source of his ill reputation there. I recorded an audio version of this tale.
The Rogue and the Emerald Eyeballs - This is a 580 word work of flash fiction featuring my sword-and-sorcery character, "the Rogue." It concerns his adventure in the Black City in the employ of a demented Sorcerer who has a grudge to grind with the royalty of Ruoc.
The Rogue and the Sorcerer of a Million Shadows - This is a 300 word flash fiction of "the Rogue" that relates his participation in a war of liberation. It's hosted by Protagonize.com, a writing workshop site.
The Tower of the 30 - This is a 720 word flash fiction that relates the effort of a tragically curious sorcerer, Yzrigrad, to make contact with the 30 sorcerers of the city-state of Broglar. It's hosted by Protagonize.com, a writing workshop site.
The Tower of the Sorcerer - This is a 650 word work of flash fiction about a sorcerer who withdraws from the world and the effect this withdrawal has on his soul. The Black Sphere of Paroptoma - This is a 1000 word short-short story (flash) about a city-state that
offended a sorcerer and the horrible consequences of that offense. It's hosted by Protagonize.com, a writing workshop site I participate in.
The Grotto - This is a flash fiction (approx. 600 words) fantasy-horror about a village and a strange cave close by that is explored by a group of scholars who come from a large city-state. It's hosted by Protagonize.com, a writing workshop site.
Horror
I'm Alive and You're Dead - This is a 670 word flash fiction of the supernatural horror genre. There is explicit material in here and some language. If you're offended by that, then, please, don't read it. Also, if you're under 18, don't read this. This story is an attempt to capture the strange feeling of horror I experienced as an undergraduate upon hearing this or that urban legend that was supposed to have happened on my campus. Though not based on any particular story, I'm sure the germ of this flash fiction is some yarn someone spun over beer one late night in undergraduate in the early 2000s.
The Doll - This is a supernatural horror about a little girl who loses her mother to cancer and the "bridge" between other worlds her love for her mother opens up. My wife and I published it on our electronic and print magazine of genre flash fiction, Flashes of Wonder!.
Hardboiled Detective Fiction
I Met Her Seven Times - This flash is available on my other blog, A Coffee and a Paperback. I have a strange relationship with this genre. First off, I love it. Secondly, I don't know if it is a "weird genre." Thus, I didn't put it on my blog in the main area. Unlike science fiction, fantasy, and supernatural horror, hardboiled detective fiction doesn't relate "unreal" happenings and things. Nevertheless, it does seem to fit, evokes some of the same "strange effects" of those genres. Anyhow, this was my first attempt at writing a hardboiled detective story. It's set in New Orleans and tells of the relationship between a police detective and a psychologically disturbed girl.
